Postpartum Physical Therapy in Richmond, VA

YOU GREW A HUMAN. NOW LET'S GET YOU BACK.

Postpartum physical therapy for Richmond moms dealing with the weakness, pressure, pain, or uncertainty that gets in the way of returning to workouts, running, and the activities they love. We find what changed during pregnancy and delivery, build a plan around your body and your goals, and get you back to full capacity — one-on-one with a DPT every session.

What Happens When Postpartum Recovery Gets Skipped

You Assume Symptoms Are Just Part of Having a Baby

Leaking during a run, core weakness, pelvic pressure, or pain that won't clear — these aren't just the cost of delivery. They're signals worth addressing, and they don't always resolve on their own without targeted care.

Returning to Training Keeps Getting Pushed Back

You want to get back to running or lifting, but something keeps getting in the way. Without a structured plan built around your body's actual recovery, every attempt either stalls out or sets you back further from where you want to be.

Small Issues Compound Into Bigger Ones

Diastasis recti, pelvic floor dysfunction, and movement compensations that go unaddressed early become harder to resolve later. The sooner you get targeted postpartum care, the better your outcomes and the faster your return to full capacity.

Why Richmond Moms Choose Grit for Postpartum PT

Postpartum PT Built for Women Who Want More Than Rest

Postpartum PT at Grit goes beyond recovery basics. You'll work one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who evaluates your movement, core mechanics, strength, and pelvic function to understand what changed during pregnancy and delivery — then builds a plan to address it at the source and support your full return to training and the life you want.

Full-Picture Postpartum Evaluation

Your evaluation looks at core mechanics, movement quality, and pelvic function together — not just the most obvious symptoms. We find what's actually limiting you and build a plan around that foundation, not surface-level guesswork.

Structured Return to Exercise

Whether your goal is running, lifting, or keeping up with daily life, your return to exercise is built progressively — with objective testing, clear checkpoints, and a timeline that matches where your body actually is, not where you wish it was.

One-on-One With Your DPT

A full hour with your physical therapist every session. No aides, no shared time, no handoffs. Private, focused postpartum care from your first evaluation through your return to the training and activities that matter most.

Out-of-Network on Your Terms

Pay a flat rate, skip the insurance runaround, and get a superbill for potential reimbursement. No surprise bills, no authorization delays, no limitations on what your care looks like.

Dr. Gabe saved my daughter’s gymnastics career. My daughter had constant pain in her lumbar pack due to excessive training , and the pain set her back from getting skills for a whole year, she was about to quit because the constant pain kept bothering her and stopped her from making progress. We are so grateful we got to know Dr Gabe. After 8 sessions of PT, the pain was magically gone and has not come back. Absolutely recommend Grit PT for their professional services and amazing results.

Common Questions About Postpartum Physical Therapy at Grit

Here are answers to the questions we hear most from people in Richmond considering postpartum physical therapy at Grit PT.

Do I need a referral for postpartum physical therapy?

No. Virginia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your evaluation at Grit without a physician referral. If you are working with an OB, midwife, or pelvic health specialist, we are happy to coordinate with your care team to keep everything aligned.

When can I start postpartum physical therapy?

Many postpartum patients start between 6 and 8 weeks after delivery, though we can often see patients earlier for education, breathing work, and gentle movement. The sooner you begin, the stronger the foundation for returning to exercise — whether your goal is running, lifting, or just feeling like yourself again.

Will PT address both my pelvic floor and my return to training?

Yes. Postpartum PT at Grit looks at your whole body — pelvic floor function, core mechanics, movement quality, and strength — with the goal of getting you back to full activity. Whether you are dealing with leaking, diastasis recti, or a body that simply doesn't feel like your own yet, your plan is built around both resolving symptoms and returning to the exercise and training you care about.

How many sessions will postpartum PT take?

It depends on what you are dealing with and what you are returning to. Most patients see meaningful progress within 6 to 10 sessions, and we give you a clear plan and timeline at your first evaluation. There are no open-ended programs — you will know exactly what to expect from day one.

Is postpartum PT covered by insurance?

Grit PT is out-of-network with all insurance providers. You pay a flat rate per session and we provide a superbill you can submit for potential reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, but many patients recover a portion of their costs.
