Running Physical Therapy in Richmond, VA

Stop Surviving Runs. Start Owning Them.

Running physical therapy for Richmond runners dealing with the pain and injuries that keep interrupting training and racing. We find the root cause, build a plan around how you train, and get you back to the miles — one-on-one with a DPT every session.

What Happens When Running Pain Gets Ignored

Your Training Volume Keeps Shrinking

You cut miles, skip long runs, and back off the effort — waiting for pain to clear on its own. But every time you ramp back up, it returns right where you left off.

The Same Problem Derails Every Buildup

You rest, ease back in, and the pain returns by mile two. Without treating the root cause, you're stuck in the same frustrating cycle every buildup.

Your Race Goals Keep Getting Pushed Back

Every missed week pushes your race goals further back. Missed training becomes missed start lines, and the window to get there keeps closing.

Why Richmond Runners Choose Grit

What Active Adults Are Saying About Physical Therapy at Grit

Dr. Gabe saved my daughter’s gymnastics career. My daughter had constant pain in her lumbar pack due to excessive training , and the pain set her back from getting skills for a whole year, she was about to quit because the constant pain kept bothering her and stopped her from making progress. We are so grateful we got to know Dr Gabe. After 8 sessions of PT, the pain was magically gone and has not come back. Absolutely recommend Grit PT for their professional services and amazing results.

I play high school basketball and Ive had patellar tendonitis for as long as I can remember. Went from having major knee pain and barely being able to dunk. To being able to consistently windmill. 10/10

I had been dealing with plantar fasciitis in my right foot for weeks with little success trying stretching, icing and other at home methods. After two sessions with Gabby, my pain is totally gone and I am back to 100%. Gabby could not have been more professional and her mix of needling, stem, scraping and stretching fixed my pain in just two sessions. I cannot say enough great things about Gabby and GRIT!
Rob Long
Dr. Gabby is professional and experienced! She took the time to listen to what I had going on and gave me a ton of actionable items and exercises to work on. Would definitely recommend!
Benjamin Klingelhofer
As a Division 1 athlete at the University of Richmond, Dr Gabby was introduced to me at a critical point in my season and rehab and she exceeded all expectations I could have ever had. I immediately felt relief and saw progress with an injury I had been dealing with for 6 months and she is without a doubt the reason I was healthy enough to finish my season! Could not recommend Dr Gabby and Grit more!
Charlotte Edwards
Gabby was able to help me get rid of my Achilles pain with her manual skills and through instruction in exercises. I am still doing the exercises now to keep strong and prevent further injuries. Gabby is so personable and knowledgeable! I highly recommend her to an athlete or someone like me who just enjoys keeping in shape and pain-free!

Common Questions About Running Physical Therapy at Grit

Here are answers to the questions we hear most from runners considering running physical therapy at Grit.

Do I need a referral for running physical therapy?

No. Virginia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your evaluation at Grit without a physician's referral. If you're working with a sports medicine doctor or coach, we'll coordinate directly with them to keep your care aligned.

Will I have to stop running during PT?

Not unless it's truly necessary. Our goal is to modify your training load so you can stay active while you recover. Most runners continue running in some form throughout their PT program — we work around your race schedule and help you train smarter, not just less.

How many sessions will running PT take?

Most runners make significant progress within 6–10 sessions. We'll give you a clear timeline at your evaluation based on your injury, training history, and goals. Some runners continue working with us to refine gait mechanics or prepare for a goal race.

What does running gait analysis tell you?

Running gait analysis uses video and force plate data to evaluate your mechanics while you run. It identifies inefficiencies and compensation patterns that may be causing or contributing to your injury — removing the guesswork and giving your treatment plan a clear foundation.

Is running PT only for competitive runners?

Not at all. We work with runners at every level — from first-timers preparing for a 5K to marathoners chasing PRs along Monument Avenue. If running matters to you and something is getting in the way, that's reason enough to come in.
