Knee Pain Physical Therapy in Richmond, VA

YOUR KNEES SHOULD TAKE YOU FURTHER, NOT HOLD YOU BACK

Knee pain physical therapy for Richmond athletes and active adults dealing with the pain that keeps interrupting workouts, runs, and the activities they care about. We find the root cause, build a plan around how you move and train, and get you back to full capacity — one-on-one with a DPT every session.

What Happens When Knee Pain Gets Dismissed

You Keep Cutting Back Instead of Building Up

You modify, rest, and try to push through — but the pain returns the moment you ramp back up. Without addressing the root cause, every attempt to get back to full training ends the same way.

Compensation Patterns Take Over Your Movement

When your knee hurts, your hip, ankle, and lower back quietly take on the load. The longer those compensations run unchecked, the harder they are to unwind and the more problems compound.

Your Training and Race Goals Keep Getting Pushed Back

Every week you sit out is another week further from where you want to be. Workouts get skipped, seasons pass, and the gap between where you are and where you want to be keeps widening.

Why Richmond Chooses Grit for Knee Pain PT

Knee PT Built Around How You Move

Knee pain PT at Grit goes beyond treating what hurts. You'll work one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who evaluates your mechanics, strength, and movement patterns to find what's actually driving the problem — then builds a plan to address it at the source and keep it from coming back.

Root Cause Assessment First

Your evaluation digs into joint mechanics, movement patterns, and strength to identify the real driver of your knee pain — not just where it hurts. Your program is built from that foundation.

Performance Testing Included

Force plate testing and functional movement assessment give us objective data on how your knee is performing so your plan is built on information, not guesswork — and we can track real progress.

One-on-One With Your DPT

A full hour with your physical therapist every session. No aides, no shared time, no handoffs. Expert, focused care from your first evaluation to the day you're cleared to return to full activity.

What Active Adults Are Saying About Physical Therapy at Grit

Gabby is a knowledgeable, dedicated, and compassionate therapist. She worked closely with me for 6 weeks, and always knew when to push and when to pull back. I went from barely being able to bend over to tie my shoes due to back pain to moving around freely and lifting weights again thanks to her patient and skilled approach. I'm very grateful for her dedication. Somehow she also makes the PT sessions fun too - highly recommend!

Dr. Gabe saved my daughter’s gymnastics career. My daughter had constant pain in her lumbar pack due to excessive training , and the pain set her back from getting skills for a whole year, she was about to quit because the constant pain kept bothering her and stopped her from making progress. We are so grateful we got to know Dr Gabe. After 8 sessions of PT, the pain was magically gone and has not come back. Absolutely recommend Grit PT for their professional services and amazing results.

Can’t recommend Grit enough! I’ve been dealing with back pain on and off for years and felt kind of defeated. Gabby really took the time to get to the root of the problem and I’ve never felt better! Gabby is extremely knowledgeable and has a broad range of treatment approaches she utilizes in each session which I found to be extremely beneficial. If you need a PT, look no further!

Common Questions About Knee Pain Physical Therapy at Grit

Here are answers to the questions we hear most from people in Richmond considering knee pain physical therapy at Grit PT.

Do I need a referral to start knee pain physical therapy?

No. Virginia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your evaluation at Grit without a physician's referral. If you are working with a sports medicine doctor or orthopedic specialist, we will coordinate with them to keep your care aligned.

How do you figure out what's causing my knee pain?

Your first visit includes a full movement and strength assessment, not just a look at where it hurts. We evaluate your mechanics, joint function, and contributing factors up the chain — hip, ankle, and how you load through your whole lower extremity — to build a plan that addresses the actual source.

Will I have to stop training while I'm in PT?

Not necessarily. Our goal is to modify your activity so you can stay as active as possible while you recover. Most patients continue training in some form throughout their PT program. We work around your schedule and goals, not against them.

How many sessions will knee PT take?

Most people see meaningful progress within 6 to 10 sessions, though it depends on the specific issue and your goals. We will give you a clear timeline at your first evaluation so you know what to expect from the start — no open-ended plans.

Is knee pain PT covered by insurance?

Grit PT is out-of-network with all insurance providers. You pay a flat rate per session and we provide a superbill you can submit for potential reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, but many patients recover a portion of their costs.
