Sports Physical Therapy in Richmond, VA

Recover Like You Compete

Sports physical therapy for athletes who want more than basic rehab. We treat the injury, build back your strength, and prepare you to compete at the level your sport demands—with one-on-one care and a plan built around how you train.

What Happens When Sports Rehab Falls Short

You're Cleared But Still Holding Back

Your provider clears you to return, but you hesitate on cuts, jumps, and full-effort plays because your body doesn't feel the way it did before the injury.

The Same Injury Keeps Derailing You

You rest, feel better, ramp back up—then the pain returns. Without treating the root cause, you're stuck in the same frustrating cycle every season.

Your Performance Never Fully Recovers

You're back on the field but can't push the way you used to. Generic rehab restores basic function—it doesn't rebuild the athletic capacity your sport demands.

Why Serious Athletes Choose Grit

Sports PT Built for How You Compete

Sports physical therapy at Grit goes beyond pain relief. You'll work one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who understands your sport's demands—treating the injury, restoring strength, and building you back to full athletic capacity so you return ready to compete, not just cleared to try.

What Active Adults Are Saying About Physical Therapy at Grit

Gabby reached out to me in just a few hours after messaging her. She was responsive and very caring about the issues I had been having with my back! Her one-on-one approach utilizing manual therapy in conjunction with mobility and strengthening work is something you won’t get in many physical therapy clinics!
Aimee Pelletier
Gabby is incredible. She is very thorough and thoughtful with her evaluation and diagnostic approach to ensure the treatment plan fits your specific needs. I cannot recommend her enough!
Dalton Stokes
Highly recommend Gabby. She’s the best. Between the manual therapy and the exercises, she got my shoulder back to feeling strong after years of avoiding certain lifts. She’s great at spotting the subtle bad habits in your form and helping you fix them. Identifying and correcting the little things made a huge impact. Can’t say enough good things.

If I ever need physical therapy this WOULD be the place I go, without question.
Joseph Kincaid
Dr. Gabe saved my daughter’s gymnastics career. My daughter had constant pain in her lumbar pack due to excessive training , and the pain set her back from getting skills for a whole year, she was about to quit because the constant pain kept bothering her and stopped her from making progress. We are so grateful we got to know Dr Gabe. After 8 sessions of PT, the pain was magically gone and has not come back. Absolutely recommend Grit PT for their professional services and amazing results.

As a Division 1 athlete at the University of Richmond, Dr Gabby was introduced to me at a critical point in my season and rehab and she exceeded all expectations I could have ever had. I immediately felt relief and saw progress with an injury I had been dealing with for 6 months and she is without a doubt the reason I was healthy enough to finish my season! Could not recommend Dr Gabby and Grit more!

Common Questions About Sports Physical Therapy at Grit

Here are answers to the questions we hear most from athletes considering sports physical therapy at Grit.

Do I need a referral for sports physical therapy?

No. Virginia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your evaluation at Grit without a physician's referral. We'll coordinate with your doctor or sports medicine team if needed.

Will I have to stop training while I'm in PT?

Not unless it's truly necessary. Our goal is to modify your training load so you can stay active while you recover. We work around your sport schedule and help you train smart rather than sit on the sideline.

How many sessions will sports PT take?

It depends on the injury and your goals, but most athletes make significant progress within 6–10 sessions. We'll give you a clear timeline and plan at your evaluation based on your specific injury and sport demands. For knee-specific issues, see our knee pain physical therapy page.

How is sports PT different from regular physical therapy?

Sports physical therapy goes beyond pain relief. We focus on restoring full athletic function—strength, power, agility, and sport-specific movement—so you return to competition performing at your best, not just functioning at a basic level.

Do you work with my sports medicine doctor or athletic trainer?

Yes. We communicate directly with your physician, sports medicine provider, or athletic trainer to keep your rehab coordinated and everyone working toward the same goals.
