Do I need a referral for sports physical therapy?

No. Virginia allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your evaluation at Grit without a physician's referral. We'll coordinate with your doctor or sports medicine team if needed.

Will I have to stop training while I'm in PT?

Not unless it's truly necessary. Our goal is to modify your training load so you can stay active while you recover. We work around your sport schedule and help you train smart rather than sit on the sideline.

How many sessions will sports PT take?

It depends on the injury and your goals, but most athletes make significant progress within 6–10 sessions. We'll give you a clear timeline and plan at your evaluation based on your specific injury and sport demands.

How is sports PT different from regular physical therapy?

Sports physical therapy goes beyond pain relief. We focus on restoring full athletic function—strength, power, agility, and sport-specific movement—so you return to competition performing at your best, not just functioning at a basic level.

Do you work with my sports medicine doctor or athletic trainer?
